About

'Here's the Thing…' is a documentary web series which profiles people through pictures of objects in their home. The ‘things’ examined in the series become vehicles for authentic personal portraits as seemingly mundane objects often reveal deeply meaningful values and events in the lives of their owners. The series connects people together by showing that no matter how wildly diverse our walks of life, everyone has a compelling story tucked away in their home that we find fascinating.

'Here's the Thing…' debuted in March 2010 with 17 episodes released to date. The show has enjoyed a passionate cult following with over 2300 Facebook fans and 400k+ YouTube views. The majority of the season one episodes were shot in New York City and featured everyone from great grandmothers, cellists, and elementary school students to well known artists and performers such as pop artist Ron English, burlesque dancer Angie Pontani and LES activist and photographer Clayton Patterson. All of the previous first season episodes can be seen on 'The Episodes' page.

In the summer of 2011, director Miska Draskoczy and creative producer Jennifer Howd took the series on the road, expanding the show with a new batch of episodes shot all over the country. The aim was to shoot as wide a cross section of people as possible. During their four week trip from NYC to LA the team shot 17 intriguing new episodes including a homicide detective, park ranger, UFO hunter, a Joplin tornado survivor, and many more.  These new episodes will be released as the 'Across America' special edition of the show.

Director and series creator MISKA DRASKOCZY has worked in film and TV for over 12 years. His projects have ranged from a conceptual arts organization purporting to be funded by NATO (NATOarts, profiled in WIRED, i-D, ARTnews, UK Esquire) to surreal sci-fi shorts (screening in Fantasia Fest, Fantastic Fest, SF IndieFest, LA shorts fest, and many others) to writing and developing a horror feature (Mister Gimp, Slamdance Screenplay semi-finalist)

In addition to his personal projects Miska has worked as a director, editor, and animator through his production company snow23 for a wide range of A-list clients and many of NYC's top ad agencies.

JENNIFER HOWD has been a much-sought-after Creative Producer and has worked on numerous high-profile projects including Focus Feature's acclaimed Robert Evans documentary "The Kid Stays in the Picture" and VH1's 10-part reality-based television series "My Coolest Years."

Jennifer began her career in NYC as a Publicist at MGM/United Artists, working on marketing campaigns for films such as Mike Figgis' Academy Award-winning "Leaving Las Vegas," Pedro Almodovar's "Live Flesh, Barry Sonnenfield's "Get Shorty," Mike Nichol’s "The Bird Cage" and Paul Verhoeven’s "Showgirls," as well as the James Bond franchise revival installments: "GoldenEye" and "Tomorrow Never Dies."
